Climate Policy Engagement Analysis

Climate Policy Engagement Overview: The Japan Industrial Vehicles Association (JIVA) appears to have limited engagement with climate policy in Japan, supporting measures with some exceptions. JIVA broadly supports climate action in its top-line messaging, and seems to support the energy transition, while appears to have limited engagement on specific climate regulations.

Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy: JIVA appears to have positive positions on climate policy in its top-line messaging A speech by JIVA’s Chairman in January 2022 took an unclear position on Japan’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. InfluenceMap was not able to find its position on Paris Agreement.

Engagement with Climate-Related Regulations: JIVA appears to have limited engagement with climate-related regulations in Japan. Although the association participated in the voluntary low carbon action plan, led by Keidanren in 2018, InfluenceMap has not been able to find recent evidence on JIVA's positions towards, or engagement with, climate change regulation.

Position on Energy Transition: JIVA appears to have limited engagement on the energy transition, taking broadly supportive positions. In the presentation given to the committee held by Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI), the entity suggests the supports the long-term role for the internal combustion engine powered by methane over the rapid electrification of transportation. In a position paper published in May 2022, the association requested that the government implement support measures to promote the development and diffusion of decarbonized products.

InfluenceMap collects and assesses evidence of corporate climate policy engagement on a weekly basis, depending on the availability of information from each specific data source (for more information see our methodology). While this analysis flows through to the company’s scores each week, the summary above is updated periodically. This summary was last updated in Q4 2022.
