The association has positive top-line messaging on climate policy, but advocates for a long-term role for hybrid vehicles.

Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy: GAIKINDO engaged positively on climate policy in is top-line messaging in 2023-2025. In a Facebook Post, published in July 2024, GAIKINDO stated its support for Indonesia’s Net Nero Goal by 2060. It also supported the 2060 goal in a December 2024 Press Release. In an April 2023 Press Release GAIKINDO appeared to support the Conference of Parties (COP) process.

Engagement with Climate-related Regulations: GAIKINDO has limited transparent on its engagement with climate-related regulations between 2023-2025. In its April 2025 update on Corporate Website, GAIKINDO supported the energy efficiency, but its position regarding its policy or target remains unclear.

Position on Energy Transition: Since August 2023, GAIKINDO appeared to support the long-term use of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), as stated by its Chairman, Yohannes Nangoi in an August 2023 News Article, which urged the government to extend incentives to hybrid vehicles. Its support for incentives for hybrid electric vehicles was echoed in a Kompas Article published in July 2024. GAIKINDO further advocated for incentives for HEVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), as reported by Katadata News in December 2024. In a Press Release published in February 2025, GAIKINDO asserted that due to US EV policy rollbacks, Indonesia should maintain production of internal combustion engine(ICE) vehicles, while supporting hybrid vehicles.
