Climate Policy Engagement Analysis
Climate Policy Engagement Overview: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) demonstrates limited policy engagement that is partially aligned with policy pathways aiming to deliver the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement. InfluenceMap found limited evidence or disclosure of the company's recent climate policy positions and engagement.
Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy: Tata Consultancy Services’ top-line statements on climate policy appear to be broadly positive, albeit limited. In a November 2024 opinion piece, TCS appeared to support the EU Green Deal, a set of policy initiatives to achieve the EU’s 2050 climate neutrality objective. In a White Paper published in July 2023, TCS strongly supported the need for climate change regulation, advocating for a nodal ministry that would holistically drive the sustainability agenda.
Engagement with Climate-Related Regulations: InfluenceMap found limited evidence of TCS’ engagement with specific climate policies. In a 2023 White Paper, it appeared to support government intervention to promote plant-based meat and dairy, keeping in mind the growing trends towards veganism. Aside from this, InfluenceMap could not find any evidence of the company’s engagement with climate regulations.
Positioning on Energy Transition: TCS appears to have limited, mostly positive engagement regarding the energy transition. In a White Paper accessed in November 2024, it advocated support for renewable energy technologies, claiming government subsidies support affordability compared to conventional sources. Further, in a July 2023 White Paper, it appeared to support the US Inflation Reduction Act. In 2021 White Paper, it attributed the growing adoption of electric vehicles to the regulatory frameworks, charging infrastructure, and consumer awareness. In a blog accessed in November 2024, TCS appeared to support carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies, without stating the need for transition to other decarbonization solutions or providing clarity on the timelines.
Industry Association Governance: In its 2024-25 Annual Report, published in May 2025, TCS disclosed a list of top ten industry association memberships, based on the number of members. However, this list does not separate those likely to have a position on climate change or information about the groups' positions on climate change legislation. Moreover, it failed to disclose its indirect membership of BusinessEurope, which generally takes positions against ambitious European climate policy. TCS has not published a complete review of its alignment with its industry associations.
InfluenceMap collects and assesses evidence of corporate climate policy engagement on a weekly basis, depending on the availability of information from each specific data source (for more information see our methodology). While this analysis flows through to the company’s scores each week, the summary above is updated periodically.
Additional Note: TCS is headquartered in India, where InfluenceMap’s LobbyMap platform can currently only make a provisional assessment of corporate climate policy engagement, due to limited capability to access publicly available data on this issue. As it is possible that InfluenceMap is not yet able to fully capture evidence of TCS' climate policy engagement activities, these scores should be considered provisional at this time.
