Biodiversity Policy Engagement Analysis

Biodiversity Lobbying Overview: Pacific Seafood has limited transparent engagement on biodiversity-related policy. Where it has engaged, Pacific Seafood exhibits policy engagement that is oppositional to science-aligned biodiversity policy

Top-Line Messaging on Biodiversity Loss Pacific Seafood has limited high-level messaging on biodiversity loss. In its 2022 CSR Report, Pacific Seafood states broad support for ensuring fish “stocks are sustainable long into the future”. In a 2022 press release, Pacific Seafood highlighted the issue of plastic marine debris on biodiversity. However, Pacific Seafood does not have a clear position on the need for urgent action on biodiversity loss or the need for government policy.

Engagement with Biodiversity-Related Regulations: In recent years, Pacific Seafood has primarily engaged on policies relevant to overexploitation and pollution.

In its 2024 CSR Report, Pacific Seafood described working with the NOAA to ensure the sustainability of fish stocks.

Pacific Seafood has also engaged on wastewater discharge permits. According to reporting by IntraFish in 2023, Pacific Seafood took legal action against permits in Oregon. Pacific Seafood’s Q3 2023 filing under the Lobbying Disclosure Act also discloses engagement on water discharge standards, although a position is not specified.

Positioning on Statutory Protection of Wildlife: No engagement on the statutory protection of wildlife was found.

Industry Association Governance: Pacific Seafood has disclosed a partial list of its industry associations, with no further information on their biodiversity-related positions. Pacific Seafood is a member of the National Fisheries Institute and the West Coast Seafood Processors Association, which have opposed policy relevant to preventing biodiversity loss.

InfluenceMap collects and assesses evidence of corporate biodiversity policy engagement on a weekly basis, depending on the availability of information from each specific data source (for more information see our methodology). While this analysis flows through to the company’s scores each week, the summary above is updated periodically. This summary was last updated in Q3 2025.
