Climate Policy Engagement Analysis
Climate Policy Engagement Overview: Nvidia appears to have limited engagement on climate change policy. InfluenceMap has not identified any evidence of direct engagement on specific climate policies between 2022 and 2024. The company has not published a transparent disclosure of its direct or indirect climate policy engagement activities.
Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy: InfluenceMap was unable to find recent evidence of Nvidia’s top-line positions on the need for IPCC-demanded emissions reductions, climate regulation in general, or the Paris Agreement. However, in a blog post published in November 2021, Nvidia appeared to support immediate action to address climate change.
Engagement with Climate-Related Regulations: Nvidia demonstrates limited engagement on climate-related policies. In an October 2024 blog post, Nvidia clearly promoted the energy efficiency benefits of advanced computing chips, but does not appear to have supported legislative measures to improve energy efficiency. InfluenceMap has not identified any evidence of direct engagement with specific climate-related policies.
Positioning on Energy Transition: Nvidia’s engagement on the energy transition is limited. In a May 2022 blog, the company appeared to support action to upgrade electric grid infrastructure to support the energy transition. In a September 2024 interview, Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang supported the use of nuclear energy to power the growth of data centers, while simultaneously emphasizing the need to derive energy from “all sources.”
Industry Association Governance: In its most recent Political Contributions and Expenditures disclosure, last updated in June 2023, Nvidia disclosed membership to several US-based industry associations, none of which are currently assessed by InfluenceMap. However, in its disclosure, Nvidia did not report its membership to the European Association of Automotive Suppliers, which is highly engaged on automotive policy in the EU. Nvidia also did not disclose this membership in its 2023 CDP Response. Nvidia has not published a review of its alignment with these industry associations.
InfluenceMap collects and assesses evidence of corporate climate policy engagement on a weekly basis, depending on the availability of information from each specific data source (for more information see our methodology). While this analysis flows through to the company’s scores each week, the summary above is updated periodically. This summary was last updated in Q4 2024.
