Climate Policy Engagement Analysis

Climate Policy Engagement Overview: LeasePlan Corporation N.V. expresses limited but positive engagement with climate change legislation in 2021-23.

Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy: LeasePlan is generally supportive of regulation to address climate change. The company expressed support for the European Green Deal in a blog post on its website in February 2023, and also appeared to advocate for ambitious policymaking at COP 26 in a November 2021 press release. LeasePlan expressed support for the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement in a blog post and on media, both in December 2021.

Engagement with Climate-Related Regulations: LeasePlan has limited engagement on climate-related regulations in 2021-23. In February 2023 LeasePlan signed onto a joint letter supporting ambitious targets in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. In March 2023, LeasePlan signed a joint letter advocating for EU states to adopt a stringent EU zero-emissions 2035 CO2 target for cars and vans without an e-fuels loophole.

Positioning on Energy Transition: LeasePlan has expressed strong support for the electrification of transportation. LeasePlan appears to have supported a zero emission vehicle mandate for the UK in a blog post published October 2021. The company also signed onto a Transport and Environment joint letter in November 2020, where they advocated for a wide range of policies to electrify vehicles in the EU. In the company’s March 2022 EV Readiness Index and 2021 Driving to Zero report, LeasePlan advocated for EU governments to expand charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Industry Association Governance: LeasePlan does not disclose its trade association memberships in a dedicated report, and has not published any policies related to trade association memberships. LeasePlan is a member of the Electric Vehicle Council in Australia, which has mostly positive engagement on climate policy.
