Climate Policy Engagement Analysis

Climate Lobbying Overview: Kinross Gold exhibits very limited engagement on science-aligned climate policy. Its communications are limited to top-line support for action on climate change and renewable energy. However, it retains membership to associations engaging counter to the goals of the Paris Agreement, such as the National Mining Association.

Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy: Kinross Gold’s top-line communications on climate policy are very limited, albeit positive. In its 20244 Sustainability Report, published June 2025, the company supported the goals of the Paris Agreement. The company has not disclosed its position on reaching net-zero by 2050, or support for government regulations to combat climate change.

Engagement with Climate-Related Regulations: Kinross Gold has not disclosed its engagement with climate-related regulations on its corporate website or CDP responses.

Positioning on Energy Transition: The company’s positioning on the energy transition is extremely limited. In an engagement with the Mauritian government, CEO J. Paul Rollinson supported opportunities for renewable energy in mining development in Mauritania, as reported in the company’s 2022 ESG report, published May 2023. The company did reference the energy transition in its 2023 Climate Report, published May 2024, having recognized the role of critical minerals in energy transition technologies. Despite this, its position on the wider transition was unclear.

Industry Association Governance: Kinross Gold has published a partial account of its industry associations' positions and engagement activities on specific climate-related policies in its 2025 Climate Change policy statement, published May 2025. It did not include material evidence of indirect climate policy engagement identified by InfluenceMap for the National Mining Association (NMA), Mining Association of Canada (MAC), or Instituto Brasileiro de Mineração (IBRAM). The NMA has consistently engaged negatively and actively against US climate policy, while MAC has been unsupportive of Canadian climate-related regulations.

InfluenceMap collects and assesses evidence of corporate climate policy engagement on a weekly basis, depending on the availability of information from each specific data source (for more information see our methodology). While this analysis flows through to the company’s scores each week, the summary above is updated periodically. This summary was last updated in Q3 2025.
