Engagement Analysis Analysis
Insight Investment Management (Insight) is a subsidiary of the Bank of New York Mellon, and as of December 2022 has an AUM of USD$786.2bn.
Stewardship Framework and Processes: Insight Investment Management appears to have had a positive influence on companies on climate. Insight has a framework for prioritizing companies and focus areas for climate engagements, and appears to have recently developed a net-zero alignment framework although it is not clear if it is in use yet. It appears to monitor engagement progress on an internal tracker, and has a new escalation stage rating system to track whether engagements need escalation. Insight has also demonstrated a strong escalation response in case studies where companies did not comply with previous engagements.
Climate Stewardship Actions: Insight appears to be actively engaging companies on climate, for example it engaged with both an oil major and a global investment company on improved climate disclosure, resulting in better reporting from both companies. The asset manager does appear to be engaging on climate policy influence, demonstrated by its engagement with a mining company on its industry trade associations. Insight is a highly active collaborator on climate, participating in several initiatives including CA100+ and IIGCC.
Governance and Transparency: Insight has clearly described its stewardship governance structures and appears to actively review and improve stewardship processes. The asset manager has limited transparency on engagements, providing some case studies but only disclosing names for CA100+ engagements. It does provide all proxy voting data but does not provide voting rationale.
Shareholder Authority and Voting: Given that Insight is primarily a fixed income investor, the asset manager has not been scored on InfluenceMap's queries on climate-relevant voting and use of shareholder authority.
