Climate Policy Engagement Analysis

Climate Policy Engagement Overview Compass appears to have very limited engagement on climate policy in 2021-23, engaging primarily with land-use related policy. Its top-line messaging is mostly positive, though InfluenceMap did not detect public positions on the energy transition.

Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy Compass seems to mostly support climate policy in its top-line messaging. The company appeared to support government regulation to respond to climate change in written evidence submitted to the UK Parliament Environment and Climate Change Committee in April 2022. In its 2021 Annual Report published in November 2021, the company stated support for limiting temperature rise to well below 2°C. Compass provided a clear, detailed position on climate change science and how the land-use sector contributes to it in its 2021-22 Climate Impact Report published in May 2023.

Engagement with Climate-Related Regulations: Compass advocated for public procurement to support the transition in diets and consumption in a written evidence submitted to the UK Parliament Environment and Climate Change Committee in April 2022. The company appeared broadly supportive of policy to make agricultural production more efficient in its 2021-22 Climate Impact Report published in May 2023. In the same report, Compass appeared supportive of protecting carbon sinks and reservoirs within its own operations though its position on policy was unclear.

Positioning on Energy Transition: InfluenceMap did not detect public positions on the energy transition from Compass in 2021-23.

Industry Association Governance: Compass provided a disclosure of its industry association membership and funding activities that may influence climate policy though with limited information on its associations' positions in its 2022 CDP Climate Change Information Request Disclosure. However, its 2022 Annual Report published in January 2023 provided limited details on the associations' climate policy positions or the type of membership and roles the company held. The company has not published a review of its industry association memberships.
