Climate Policy Engagement Overview: The Korea Business Association in Europe (KBA Europe) appears to have very limited engagement with climate policy, and weak disclosure on its climate policy positioning and engagement.
Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy: InfluenceMap found limited evidence of top-line messaging on climate policy by KBA Europe before August 2023. In the ‘Comments on the Proposed Establishment of a Carbon-Border Adjustment Mechanism in the European Union’ submitted in Nov 2021, KBA Europe supported “non-discriminatory and proportionate policy measures” by the EU to respond to climate change.
Engagement with Climate-Related Regulations: InfluenceMap found limited evidence of KBA Europe’s engagement with climate-related regulations before August 2023. In its ‘Feedback from the Korea Business Association Europe on the CBAM draft Implementing Regulation on reporting obligations’ published in July 2023, the President of KBA Europe, Na Sang-won, did not support the CBAM, stating opposition to some of the reporting obligations and penalties during the transitional period.
Positioning on Energy Transition: InfluenceMap found limited evidence of KBA Europe’s engagement with the transition to a low-carbon energy mix before August 2023. In the Comments on the Net Zero Industry Act submitted in June 2023, KBA Europe supported the Net Zero Industry Act, asking for further clarification on the type of net-zero technologies eligible for subsidies. However, in the same Comments, KBA Europe, appeared to oppose the ambition of the Net-Zero Industry Act proposal, stating that it should be “a political commitment” rather than a “regulatory requirement.”
