Climate Policy Engagement Analysis
Climate Policy Engagement Overview: Kering has limited engagement on climate related policy with mostly positive messaging on the need to take urgent action and policies to accelerate the energy transition. However, Kering retains membership of several influential associations which are negatively engaged with climate policy.
Top-line Messaging on Climate Policy: Kering’s top-line messaging is largely positive. In a May 2022 joint letter, Kering CEO François Henri-Pinault supported limiting warming to 1.5°C and the EU Green Deal. Kering's Head of Sustainability Marie-Claire Daveu, stated support for government regulation to address climate change in a blog article published in November 2022. Kering also appears to support the Paris Agreement, as a signatory of the UNFCCC Fashion Pact which seeks to align the fashion sector with the goals of the Paris Treaty, as mentioned on the company’s corporate website, accessed in January 2024.
Engagement with Climate-Related Regulations: Kering appears to have limited, but positive, engagement with climate policy. In a May 2022 letter, Kering supported ambitious proposals for the EU Emission Trading System, the EU Renewable Energy Directive, as well as the EU Energy Efficiency Directive and buildings legislation under the Renovation Wave and Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.
Positioning on Energy Transition: Kering also appears to have limited, but positive, engagement with specific policy relevant to transitioning the energy mix. In a May 2022 joint letter, Kering CEO advocated for more ambitious proposals under the EU Energy Taxation Directive and RePowerEU legislation.
Industry Association Governance: Kering disclosed a list of its membership to industry associations on documents accessible via its corporate website, albeit with limited details of its industry associations’ positions and engagement activities. Kering is a member of MEDEF and Confindustria, which hold mixed to negative positions with several policy areas, such as emissions trading and the energy transition.
