A new batch of industry associations has been uploaded onto the InfluenceMap system and the relationship scores recalculated accordingly.
We adjusted the terminology used to describe the queries running down the left-hand side of our scoring matrix and added additional explanatory text to the info-boxes. This has no impact on the scores and methodology. It has been done following user feedback to improve clarity.
The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) is lobbying in support of ambitious climate change policy across the United States. AWEA endorses GHG emissions reductions in line with a 2°C climate target, and has made multiple statements suggesting support for the Paris Agreement. The American Wind Energy Association appears to support all major strands of US climate legislation, including the Clean Power Plan. AWEA advocated to increase the ambition of the Clean Power Plan, supporting the rule in a 2014 consultation, as well as through legal interventions in 2015-16. AWEA actively promotes US renewable energy legislation, advocating in support of the federal wind production tax credit throughout 2014-17, including opposing measures to cut the credit in 2017. AWEA further supports state-level renewable portfolio standards, campaigning in 2015-17 in support of such standards for multiple states including Nevada, New York and Ohio. AWEA has further communicated support for emissions trading proposals related to the Clean Power Plan and for multiple state-level energy efficiency standards. AWEA is an active supporter of measures to decarbonize the power sector and its CEO Tom Kiernan is vocal in promoting the growth of wind power capacity as a means to achieve this. In 2017 AWEA has further criticized measures to introduce US subsidies for coal and nuclear power plants and called on North Carolina’s governor to veto a bill placing a moratorium on wind development in the state. InfluenceMap is aware of AWEA's recent rebranding into the American Clean Power Association, and will change this portfolio's information accordingly as a full update of the entity's engagement with climate policy is carried out in the near future.
